Juan Rodríguez Varón's landscape prints collapse the natural world into a sensory display of light, colour, form and movement. Starting with simple everyday events, such as the colour of a shadow or the patterns created by light passing through water, Juan begins by trying to capture these phenomena in his paintings.
As Juan builds layers of paint, his painting materials take on a life of their own and begin to speak for themselves. Transparency, vibrations between colours, the plasticity of a brushstroke - these qualities become the subjects of his work as much as the scene he's working to depict.
