Selfie
Distinctive, curious and unique, Selfie by Magola Moreno is a contemporary art print that hovers somewhere between fiction and reality, making it a truly intriguing choice for the home. Based on a photograph the artist found in a trash can and the painting Clear Ideas by René Magritte, Magola combines fiction with reality to make a powerful visual comment on the contradictions, fantasies and disconnect that characterises our relationship with the digital world.

“Screens increasingly distance us from the place and time in which we should be present. That we remove ourselves from the self and the ego in digital spaces is, for me, the most surreal thing about these dystopian times. This painting depicts a harsh reality in a soft way."

Magola Moreno
Magola's art is characterised by a strong questioning of her own perspective, while also challenging what the world deems to be true or valid or beautiful. All of Magola’s paintings are fictional and imaginative, providing an alternative to the harsh realities of the world. And she is insistent that she doesn’t, “subvert any traditions or challenge any expectations. My work benefits from my limitations and coming up with my own version distinguishes what I do.”
