Art Lovers VIII
Art Lovers VIII is part of a series by Magola Moreno that includes artworks that interest her and portraits of families whose destinies might be symbolised by the famous art she references.
In this piece of colourful wall art, there's a Cindy Sherman work from her Society Portraits series, a 2008 project that looks at the thinly veiled fictions of beauty, success and status upheld by the art world's wealthiest collectors.
But looking beyond this, the print is also stunning for its use of colour and detail, making it an image that reveals new details every time you look at it. A bold work, hang this piece in the social spaces of your home as an eye-catching conversation starter.
“This series portrays couples that get along well, art lovers, and they're always accompanied by famous pieces of modern or contemporary art that interest me. I paint everything that I don't have, in this case a partner, the most difficult social construction to achieve." Magola Moreno (Baranquilla, 1968)

MAGOLA MORENO
Magola's art is characterised by a strong questioning of her own perspective, while also challenging what the world deems to be true or valid or beautiful. All of Magola’s paintings are fictional and imaginative, providing an alternative to the harsh realities of the world. And she is insistent that she doesn’t, “subvert any traditions or challenge any expectations. My work benefits from my limitations and coming up with my own version distinguishes what I do.”
