But look closely at the portrait behind them, a recreation of one of Cindy Sherman's Society Portraits from 2008, and the thin veil of strength begins to show cracks. Just as Sherman's doyenne of high society has to fulfil a role and embody a certain character to present to society every day, so this couple has to raise itself up every day to face a life that might not be as easy as it first seems.

Magola Moreno
Magola's art is characterised by a strong questioning of her own perspective, while also challenging what the world deems to be true or valid or beautiful. All of Magola’s paintings are fictional and imaginative, providing an alternative to the harsh realities of the world. And she is insistent that she doesn’t, “subvert any traditions or challenge any expectations. My work benefits from my limitations and coming up with my own version distinguishes what I do.”
