Doppelganger 1
Priscilla González's large square art print Doppelganger 1 is truly unique. A closer look reveals female figures woven into a symmetrical layout inspired by pre-Columbian jewellery from South America. Elegant silhouettes of the female form fill this intimate and feminine design for Priscilla’s papercut works.
Offering a truly different aesthetic for your interiors, Doppelganger 1 is guaranteed to ignite the imagination and spark conversation. Hang in earthy interiors to create a cohesive palette, or use as a striking statement piece in a neutral room.
“For me, paper represents the fragility of women. But it’s also flexible, and so it’s strong. It can twist, bend and adapt.
I love how I remove sections from the paper when I cut out the female forms. In removing material, I reduce the paper down to something less. But at the same time, I’m making a beautiful image, and so building up the paper in another way. A metaphor for finding beauty in simplicity, a visual symbol for the idea that less is more.” Priscilla González (San José, 1981)

Priscilla González
Costa Rican artist Priscilla González is known for her intricate works on paper and her focus on femininity and intimacy. She references domestic objects such as doilies, as well as erotic photos of curvaceous women from the 1960s and 1970s. By combining the domestic and the erotic, Priscilla's art highlights the tension being a ‘respectable’ woman in public and the private desires that come to life behind closed doors, away from the judgemental gaze of society.
