Bold and vibrant, Blackberry is a unique take on the traditional botanical art print and a contemporary alternative perfect for the homes of nature lovers.
Esteban Peña's art shows us the blackberry wildflower as insects would see it: with eyes sensitive to ultraviolet and infrared light. This new way of seeing reveals bright and unusual colours, as well as traces of nectar, calling insects towards the flower to feast and carry pollen away with them.
“Using the same four colours as an inkjet printer (cyan, magenta, yellow, black), I build up to 50 layers of paint on the paper to create realistic paintings. This protracted technique acts as a metaphor for slowing down, inviting myself and the spectator to look more closely at our surroundings and find beauty in the everyday.” Esteban Peña (Bogotá, 1979)
